The Department of gastroenterology is managed by Dr.P.V.Ramana Murthy.,MS, FRCS (UK) Chief Surgical gastroeneterologist in association with a medical gastroenterologist. This hospital is the busiest gastro centre for gastro surgeries and gastro medical cases in coastal Andhra, Khammam and Nalgonda dist in Telangana region.

All emergencies in Surgical and medical gastro like acute severe pancreatitis, UGI bleed, acute liver failure, cirrhosis of liver are managed here with expertise. All kinds of endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are done in the department. All therapeutic ERCP procedures including metallic CBD stenting, drainage of complex hilar CBD strictures are done in the department. Esophageal, Colonic metallic stentings are done in the department.

The department has Pentax and Olympus endoscope, colonoscope and duodenoscope, has 2 endoscopy assistants. Bedside endoscopy for sick and critical patients with GI bleed are done here. Liver disease patients like acute viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, cirrhosis of liver, liver failure, chronic hepatitis B and C are managed here with lot of interest in a separate liver clinic.
